You can extend your development capabilities, retain complete control, smooth out peaks and troughs in the project lifecycle, and let someone else deal with all of the Human Resourcing from hiring to annual appraisals. Our teams are also encouraged to spend part of the project lifecycle with our clients on-site too if that is helpful to the client at any point.

Why Serbia for software engineering?

  • Serbia as a "near-shore" location?
  • Serbia lies directly east of Croatia, south of Hungary and west of Romania and Bulgaria, all of which are member countries of the EU. Direct flights from London to Belgrade, take approximately 2 hours 40 minutes. The time zone is GMT+1.
  • Is Serbia joining the EU?
  • Serbia is well advanced towards EU membership. As a European country, Serbia has applied for full membership of the EU and since 2012 has held EU Candidate status. Full EU membership is Serbia’s foreign policy priority and Serbia is anticipated to join in 2025.
  • How is Serbia's business sector supported?
  • Improvements in the business environment through government incentives such as double deductions for R&D expenditures, and the “IT Box” regime, through which revenues derived from IT Development in Serbia is subject to only 3% corporation tax.
  • Various tax credits for investors in IT sector companies, innovations, and start-ups.
  • A national strategy for accelerated development within the start-up eco-system.
  • Is Serbia a low-cost centre for software development?
  • While Serbia does offer cost advantages over UK or EU "on-shore" resources, it is not focussed on a cheap-labour business model but rather, is focussed on providing a highly expert, great-value workforce to support digital economies and digital societies.
  • Is Serbia a high quality talent pool?
  • Serbia is an emerging technology hub in Europe. The country has over 2,000 IT services companies and a workforce of 30,000 IT specialists. A Serbian digital eco-system has been fostered through education reform. More than 3,300 software engineers graduate every year from Serbia’s 26 colleges.
  • With an education sector providing a strong tradition in engineering and technology, the current generation of senior engineers is equipped with deep tech, math knowledge and expertise providing an excellent talent pool that in turn is driving growth in the tech sector, including AI, data science, blockchain and distributed ledger technologies.
  • Recent year reforms in the Serbian education system have catapulted Serbia to the top ranks in technology education globally. For example, computer programming is a mandatory subject for all students from Grade 5 to Grade 12. The government has deemed that the digital economy will require such skills for all people, irrespective of whether students will go into careers in technology, medical science, politics, etc., to drive digital innovation in all sectors of the economy and the society.
  • Specialist IT streams have been introduced in high schools, providing a very advanced curriculum for students who want to choose IT as their profession.
  • New multi-discipline masters degrees have been introduced, such as art and technology, expressly to nurture a new talent pool for the gaming industry. New specialised master degrees in specific technologies such as blockchain.
